Email Definitions

CC and BCC
CC stands for carbon copy, this is used as an indication that the copy of what has been sent has also be sent to other recipients as well. An example of this is sending an email to someone and when they open it they will be able to see who else received the email as it’s a carbon copy.                       BCC stands for blind carbon copy; this is when an email is sent to multiple people however the recipients aren’t able to see who else it has been sent to.
Spam Filter
Your spam filter is an automated system that will filter spam email to a junk folder. Spam can be used to spread viruses and phishing scams, by using a spam filter these won’t appear in your messages folder instead the will be organised in your spam folder helping you to stay away from viruses and phishing scams.
Phishing and Viruses
Phishing is when you send an email to a person pretending to be a legitimate company asking for personal information. You can prevent yourself from getting fooled by these emails by reading it through; a company wouldn’t ask you over email to give personal information and the email sent most likely would have spelling mistakes and things like that so you’ll be able to tell that it’s fake. A virus is a program which contaminates your computer and reproduces to other computers and it can be responsible for turning your computer off, deleting programs and even deleting your files. You can contract viruses from downloading files or program and even just by clicking on a website; you’re able to protect yourself against them by downloading or buying an anti-virus program such as MacAfee, Norton or Avast.
Rules
Using rules on your e-mail can be beneficial as they will keep you organised and up to date with your e-mails. You can create a rule so that certain emails don’t get to you, this is done by adding specific addresses to be shows as spam or be sent to your junk mails. This also can prevent you from being sent viruses or be a victim of phishing from illegitimate companies.
